kiwi, kraft and chocolate

On a bit of a roll tonight with making cards! I just saw this Little Paper Shop challenge over at Victoria's blog and for some reason just had to try it myself. I got my glitter paper from QVC today and there was a lovely chocolate brown, I cut into and then decided it didn't quite go! The cardstock is kraft stamped with SU labels stamp for a background then the SU Bloom stamp set is used for the image and sentiment. The card sentiment is one I had lying around and it seemed to fit so well. The ribbon is choc chip from SU with a little brad pinching a piece to make a bow (as taught by the lovely Victoria in her workshop). Little butterfly is from my new MS punch. The green paper is actually SU Certain Celery - near enough to kiwi!!!

Tag, candle + sketch!

This stamp is from a new set - I've already used the umbrella, and I so wanted to use the set again. So, when on Charisma cardz they wanted to see a candle on a cake - this came to mind. I also wanted to enter allsorts challenge with their tag challenge, and then to pull it together I used the sketch at Papertake weekly. Fab!

Papers are MME and plain card is SU as is the stamp and sentiment. Just love these small sentiments that came with the sale-a-bration labels set, perfect for a small area. I also used my newest embossing folder, daisy. I think this may take place along swiss dots as a fav - love the effect. I put the paper in the wrong way round to begin with - I like to think it is debossed, so used that behind the image. relax

On Stampin' sisters in Christ Challenge they want a card inspired by time. This card for me says "me time" and as I have put from the PTI on my couch set "time to relax". The main image is Nikki coloured with promarkers, the papers are MME which were free with a mag (glad I got that one!). Flower from my stash and the little turquoise things are from Craftwork cards.

Scrapped post

This wasn't for a challenge. However I since found it fits with All that scraps perfectly! Over on Debs blog she says she likes to get scrapped post, and if you send her something handmade she will send you something back! So here is the card I created for her, inspired by Paula and her use of books (this is a mag freebie book that I was going to send to charity). So strange that when I punched the paper words like "sewing basket" and "crochet hook" were on those pieces -spooky. The bit that looks like a tape measure is actually cut from the ruler on the Stampin Up sheet you get in a workshop! Bit of a different style for me, brought on I think by watching Tim Holtz this week.
This is the scrapped envelope - used the negative from the punch of the butterllies to stencil with.
As you know I am coming to end of my MBA and would love to do some DT work. So, I have made my first application at By the cute and girly - they have a call out until 1 March.

On Corrosive challenge this week they want to see Wings on your creation. I've made this little card with a Greeting farm stamp, some free papers and some paper run through my cuttlegbug and rubbed over with Certain Celery ink pad. I only bought this stamp set because this little dog reminds me of my Westie Angus I used to have - ahh he was such an affectionate dog. The "wings" are of course on the birds and should be the focus of this card not the dog !!!
I have had a fiskars small trimmer for a while now and thought it was great till the edges of my paper were getting ragged - just got two replacement blades from Art of Craft + sshh?? (thanks for the link Paula) and it works fab again now - who would have known - well not me anyway!!

WOYWW 24.2

This is me caught in true push back style! The remnants of the last card I made are all here plus some inked up and coloured images that I was going to use this week. My two new Greeting Farm stamps that came on Tuesday and didn't get to see ink.
The eagle eyed might spot a new addition on my desk, this...
As you can see I have put a token stamp in it as this is what I intend to use it for - inspired by you ladies who have stamps on display- but I thought they may not get so dusty in this?? Thought if some of them were on show it might make me think more of them, but only certain ones will fit in it. Of course my radio was in this space so that is on the floor at the moment.

365 cards day 360

I was going to make anything tonight - been watching QVC on and off and only bought some glitter paper! Was blog hopping and saw the challenge on 365 cards to case a style. I had stamped this image over the spotty paper when I first got it but had not known what to do with it. Tonight it came to me and this is what I made. The edge is border punched and the edge showing underneath is covered with sticky ribbon. I really love the SU set Happy everything - I've used it before with birthday but tonight it seemed to go with "everything" and then the SU Label with "for you". I like to think it is a kind of circular greeting, Happy everything for you, or for you happy everything etc....
It also for me fits "a touch of spring" on Stamp something challenge blog.

Charming Bear

This is a card I  have made for my OH Grandson who I know is into skateboard games on the gamestation so I am hoping this will be ok. The image is from Newton's Law website - which I found courtesy of someone else's blog. I'm not entirely sure about the "die" bit seems a bit harsh for a kid's card but it is on the site and so perhaps I'm just being an oldie about it!
I'm entering into Crafty Catz challenge which is for a bear with a charm. I've added a little basebal cap which was about the most boy charm I had.

On Cupcake Craft challenge this week and Rosie D's the theme is "Friends". I love this little digi set from Nutshells and had so much fun colouring it in. The little sentiment comes with the kit and I tried to cut it so it is like a little banner.
Did you know that it is QVC craft day tomorrow and that they have Tim Holtz on - hide those credit cards!!! I don't think he has ever been on before.

For You

Although I don't have a Mother anymore I will be making two cards for Mothers day - one for my OH Mother and one for my friend and neighbour. This is the one for the latter, it may seem strange but she really does look after me and so on Mother's day I always make her a card and give her a little present. So the card doesn't exactly look Mumsy!

Was a bit stuck for inspiration until I saw the sketch at Mojo Monday and it fitted perfectly with the stamp (from ebay) I had already picked out and the DCWV retro square paper.

It also fits two Mothers day challenges Quixotic challenges and Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge.

RED, and PINK +

Quick post before I get my head down to the hopefully finishing touches to my dissertation. My tutor has seen it and given me some tips to tweak it in a few places.
I made this card for my friend's 40th - not til June so in plenty of time! I knew when I saw this image I wanted it for her card and she shares the same name. The background card has been lurking around forever and is K&co - that little window in the top right corner is pre cut and until now I have never really known what to do with it. That is what is so brilliant about these challenges - first I realised it had most of the colours I needed and then I thought it would be good to put the "40" in there so that when the card is standing it is not "in your face" LOL!

Piece of red SU card and the SU sentiments stamped with their whisper white pad. The pink spotty paper is actually embossed with clear dotty stamp and then I put my brayer over it with pink ink to resist - getting messy these days! Not sure you can see it that well in the photo but it does give a glossy image to the dots.
Almost forgot! - the challenge is Colour create Red, pink, white and chocolate

Happy Birthday truly scrumptious

Truly scrumptious are one year old and the challenge this week is a sketch with optional theme of birthday. I put some card through the swiss dots then rubbed an ink pad over it. I used my new dandelion stamp (been trying to get this for ages) and then rubbed ink over the image too. Added tempting turquoise ribbon from SU and a little gem because it looked a bit bare! Gone a bit dotty at the moment as you will see from the next card I post.

Thursday, 18 February 2010

On Papertake weekly challenge they want to see either gingham or checks on your card. I have just got this 2006 SU stamp set from the US and couldn't wait for it to hit the ink. I finished it off with a little bit of sticky gingham ribbon. Mounted onto tempting turquoise SU card and then onto a K&Co preprinted striped card.

Tuesday, 16 February 2010

I was going to save posting this but just realised the challenge deadline for one of them is tonight at midnight!
I've utilised my day off well and this is just one of the cards I have made using scraps out of my box. The label is SU and the text from the PC all put together with my new stampamajig from SU. Really getting the hang of it now and also using it to put together the SU stamps which was a tip I picked up from the SU training day at Peterborough.

Thanks for all the great comments you are all leaving, some have made me laugh out loud - great!

Creative Inspirations - anyone for leftovers

keep it simple

On Cupcake craft challenge this week they want it kept simple - so that is what I tried to do with this card, whilst using the colours for the Stamp with us Challenge. I've even used a plain piece of the blue cardstock instead of a ribbon.

All the card including the base is SU. The flower stamps are "botanicals" from Craftwork cards the others are SU.

flower power

Had to be at the hospital for 8.30am this morning! Upside of that was I had the rest of the day free and managed to get into town and see the shops!!! All this studying has meant I haven't seen any shops other than those at St Pancras (and very nice they are) for quite some time now. Of course I have been buying -online though.
Anyway, I have made this card for the following challenges - Fiona is the real expert at this flower game and I just tried to copy! I see she has done it again today to perfection and in my fav colour.
Anyone for Anya - flower power
Crafty angels -fantastic flowers
Pile it on -challenge #6 -let us see flowers

I've been given this blog award by two lovely ladies Sara and also from Paula. I already had this one and so here's a link to the orginal post of 10 things that make me happy.

Thanks so much for thinking of me with the award - it means a lot.

male card

I found this challenge a while ago but only just had chance to enter. Cards for Men challenge does exactly what it says on the blog! You make cards for men. This week the card can be any male card as long as green is the predominate colour.
Over on Charisma Cardz their theme this week and also on Rosie-D's is "male" cards so I am entering the card for those challenges also.

If you saw my post the other day you will recognise the sketch as one from "clean & Simple". I really loved the way it turned out so I used it again but left out the raised element. Instead I put a piece of the green card (from SU) inked with brown across the card. I also inked the edges of the card and papers. The sentiments stamps are SU.

There is a new challenge which started today - Scrap the Art. The picture they gave as inspiration was a Van Gogh.

First of all I made this card - which the painting inspired me to make.

Here is a close up showing the new butterfly punch I have used.

With the leftovers I made this card using the clean & simple sketch.

This is a box that some perfume from Next arrived in. I didn't want to throw it away but it had Next printed in the middle of the box on a white oblong.

I put a yellow oblong cut with a nestie over the "Next" writing then cut another oblong with white card and punched it with the butterfly - the used an SU sentiment stamp. I've put yellow tissue paper in the box too so I think it looks really lovely for my friend's birthday. She never comes on here so safe to post!;)

Crafty room envy!

Just look at this craft room - yes it is a craft room. What's more it is in a shed!!!!! check out the link here. I found this wonder through this site, this is the link to a crafty storage blog, where I have just gone into total craft room envy - sigh!
And look at this - craft room round up - not investigated past the first page but they all look soooo tidy not like WOYWW LOL!
I have succumbed to the sniffles finally, after trying to quarantine myself. Well that's all from me for now - nite, nite.

Not really crafty WOYWW

As you can see this is not my craft desk! Just thought I would take a short break to show you what is on my desk - my MBA dissertation in full flow. Nearly ready for first submission now. I am going to read through it on the train to Durham tomorrow as I won't be disturbed, and I will no doubt come back with lots of revisions to do to it.
Thanks to everyone for messages of support - it really helps. I should have listened when my tutor said don't leave it all to write in one go. But I just find it easier to go with it than keep leaving off - it would be like starting to make a card and doing it over several weeks - where would your mojo be LOL!! The picture on the wall is from Zorana and I find it very comforting. It says "Love is above all the gift of oneself" I read this when I think I am not working hard enough and realise, yes I am, ease up a bit.

On Cute Card Thursday the challenge is to put dots or spots on your card. I have had this dotty/spotty background for soooo long, it is part of a set. I have never really utilised it and am disappointed with it on this card because eventhough it is small, you could see the join as I had to use the stamp twice. I think I am going to HAVE to get the SU really big stamp which would have easily covered this in one go. So, I put the head in the middle and am quite pleased with how it turned out. Not sure you should have colour as it is a silhouette. Used a silver peel off and coloured it with a black pen.

a flourish

A new challenge to me is Clean and simple but now I have been alerted to it I think I will be going back. I bought a set of flourish stamps a couple of weeks back and they were for doing just this type of card - so couldn't resist could I. I have been good all day working away, especially since my SU and sale items from arrived first thing and I only looked at them!

I just realised that I put my sentiment in the wrong place-doh - here is the sketch

Quick and easy to do but very satisfying and I got to use one of my new SU vintage label stamps which I raised on pads. I also round the corners of my card with the corner punch.

No stamped image or digi

I've been working hard on my dissertation and have typed about 13,000 words so far. Got about another 5,000 or so to go. I felt so tired today but did do some work on it and then decided enough is enough for one night and went and made this card. To begin with I felt too tired to even think what to do - which is why I think I ended up using the stickers. I'm pleased with this card, it's not like anything I have made before.

I've used all SU products apart from the sentiment. Tempting turquoise and old green olive card stock and a patterned paper and stickers from Sunny Day scrapbook kit. Used boho punch for the two flowers and label punch for the tab.
I'm entering into the following challenges:-

Bizzy Becs - no stamped image or digi
Stamp with us - thank you
Saturday challenge- with a heart

WOYWW and surrounding area!

As well as my desk this week I have been brave and shown you the rest!
First my desk, got my PTI goodies I won which were papers, ribbons and buttons. My two Nikki stamps I just bought because .........I bought a magazine to get those free My Minds Eye papers you can see, which because I bought it in Tesco meant I got an extra gift of the Beatrix Potter decals. I know the Nikki stamps are going to be perfect for a couple of cards I need to make.
Then the black book thing is a photo album I bought for 75p from Tesco (sorry to mention them again, they are not my sponsor - far from it!) and I have used it to store most of my unmounted stamps as they were getting buried in drawers.
The maltesers are there from last week - remember I said I hadn't eaten them!
The things you can see under the window were until last week on the bed. They are very heavy as one holds 12x12 completed and uncompleted albums and 12x12 paper pads. I decided it probably wasn't the best thing for the bed with that weight on them continually - now I worry they are near the heat! Just behind my chair - has to fold up for space saving issues, is my scrap box. Now unlike Julia, my scraps are from 1" to ??? and cannot be stored upright. All my Christmas stash is now in the pine chest of drawers and the blue cardboard drawers hold all my completed cards sorted into Xmas, general, special and waiting to be finished!

By the way are closing down and have a sale on. I've bought some goodies but left some for the rest of you LOL!

Edited- for Sista Susie Sugar who wants to see what is in the "little black dress box"..............

4 legged and furry

On Cupcake Craft challenge this week it's "four legged and furry" - so I knew I would get my little dog punch out after it was neglected for so long! I tried to make this in the style of a Radley ad - vist their website and you will see what I mean. The stickers are from Marc Jacobs perfume (supposed to decorate the bottle with them!), a rub on sentiment from my stash and the flowers and ball are PTI through a cuttlebug die.
