WOYWW 28.4

My desk looks much the same as last week so this is a swing to my left to show you my floor storage. the bin was stencilled by me with a CRM stencil many years ago. Pink folder at the front is currently holding all free papers in a bid to get them used. SU cardstock popping up behind that so it always on hand. Julia could you link for me this week please. So sorry I won't be able to visit anyone else. Have a good Wednesday.

Vintage man

This is a card I have made for the "vintage man" challenge over at Ooh la la challenge. I felt sure I had something I could stamp for this but no they are all tooo girly! I brayered the background and then used some images from a book which I tore around and inked over. The sentiment is SU and punched out with the SU scallop oval punch which I thought looked very vintage. I put glossy accents over the images but it doesn't show up in the photo.
I had to go to London for work on Friday but got some time to hit the shops before I came home. I was in Liberty's and I saw this

The CD on the front contains all of the pages in the book it comes with. Each page has a number so you can look offline for the paper and then load the CD and easily select. I was in two minds whether to buy it but thought I might not see it online. As it turns out you can get it at Amazon considerably cheaper than I paid! There is also another one in the series with Folk Art papers. I just love the feel of the book it is almost a linen paper. I also looked at fat quarters of liberty fabric to put on some cards, not until I put my glasses on did I see they were £55 a bundle!!!! Didn't buy those then!
I'm going to the theatre tomorrow to see "When Harry met Sally" then a short absence due to work, but hopefully I will be able to schedule my desk for WOYWW.

Spring has sprung my first GDT card

Here is my first GDT card for two week challenge on Nutshells challenge blog. The theme is to make a Spring card and as long as you use a stamp they sell in their Nutcrafters store you can enter. They sell TGF as well as many others and their own line of stamps. I wasn't meant to start until May but this image just spoke to me of spring and off I went.
The image is a digi from Nutcrafters called Spring Harriet. which I have coloured with promarkers.  I've used Mary Engelbreit papers and some glitter paper for matting. Two flowers punched with SU boho blossoms punch and a Petaloo glitter flower. The sentiment is ME too.

WOYWW 21.4

Wednesday came around so fast that some of the things on here are still there from last week. You may spot a spa nail kit - what would that be doing on a craft desk?? Well, after Sista Susie Sugar showed us her distressing tool last week I got to thinking of a cheaper alternative and this was it! I have distressed the Tilda that you can see just to check if it worked, and it did.  There is a stamped image of a victorian house I just got and coloured in, and so timely as my Australian friend is moving house so this is waiting to go on a card for her. I have some new Penny Black stamps - only really wanted the mouse in the choc box, but he came as part of a set, searched everywhere for him on his own! Got them from the US though as part of another order and even with the not so good exchange rate they were still cheaper than UK prices. You might want to know what is in that big box? Well the other week I was searching for something and came across a subscription offer to a cardmaking mag and the free gift was this set from Stampin up, called Simply Sent. I took the picture below before I assembled the stamps, you can see them in the centre of the desk.
I have a busy Wednesday after work so may not get around to everyone, but I will try.

Red and white

I had this Greeting Farm image already coloured and wasn't sure what to do with her. So when I saw the challenges for Red and white it gave me that push to put her on a card. I've used free backing papers with a small square of white card run through the swiss dots folder. Added a couple of flowers and some fronds. the sentiment is a rub on. I'm entering her into:-
Cupcake Craft Challenge-red and white
Rosie-D's Challenge-red and white
Anyone for Anya - sweet as sugar
I had to travel on the motorway for work today. I noticed it was very quiet, I think because due to the lack people using the airport, as I use a route which goes close to the airport. I have two colleagues stranded abroad. One of them is setting off today and hopes to be back in England by Friday otherwise her latest flight offered on Monday was 28 April.

A get well card and some news........

I wanted to make a card for a very special blogging buddy who is really not very well. Isn't it strange how when you sit to make a really special card all your ideas go-luckily I got my mojo back through Day 50 on 365 cards where they challenge you to use:-
1) An item that is more than a year old

2) Something that you were given that you have never used - this could be from a swap or a gift, but it has to have come from someone else.

3) Something you forgot you had.
so I used some Mary Engelbreit paper I forgot I had and rickrack ribbon. Something I was given was a free digi image from Sassy Cheryl's which I've coloured with promarkers. An item more than a year old is the gold mirri board under the stamped image.

I'm also entering it into the following challenges:-
Stamp something - layering
Paper Cutz challenge - anything you like

My news is that I have my first GDT position at Nutcrafters, see how easily I have filled that studying time LOL!

It's all over now..........

I have finished my disseration for the MBA - yipee! Just getting it printed and bound and then it will go off for marking. Depending on when it gets there I may know in July or a lot later in the year. I've been working closely with my tutor so it should pass!
So now I have craft time! However, today a look at the garden made me realise "garden time" too. I have only done a little weeding today but thought I would share these photos of some of the plants in my garden.

I would love a carpet of grape hyacinths but they don't seem to want to spread very far in the garden, just got a few clumps.
Blogger is playing up with the photos and now "p" on my keyboard is sticking! So can't get the names of the flowers underneath them. The yellow is forsythia, grape hyacinths, the single purple flower is a drumstick primula and the white flowers are cherry tree blossom (that only lasts a couple of weeks and then it is all gone). Just look at how many "p"s there are in the above, had to keep stopping and pressing hard......
Liverpool Lou got me thinking today about whether someting is WIP (work in progress) or UFO (unfinished object). This is a piece of x-s I started in memory of my dog when he died in 2007.
I'm determined to get it finished now. I'm going to redocorate the room I craft in with yellow and blue and this is going to hang in there. Together with another kit I just got (not like I haven't got millions waiting to be stitched!) but I used to have the Holly Hobby poster on my bedroom wall when I was a teenager and so am going to stitch her to hang in the newly decorated room too.

WOYWW and under it........

Ha ha - not really - see below. I couldn't resist taking a picture when I had a good clean up at the weekend-you may never see it like this again!
Since I have been visiting other WOYWWs I realised a lot of you store stuff under the desk. As I don't actually sit with my legs under it when crafting I have joined in - a bit of reorganisation means I can actually step back a bit further from the desk to take this shot, showing my clear drawers - and the striped cardboard ones house my finished cards.
Can you see my new mug, I think it looks very Cath Kidston but is actually Tesco! Two for £3.50 the other one I got has hearts on it which marries two of my passions nicely (mugs and hearts). On the desk is a new image I got from someone on ebay, because after seeing it on someone's blog, I couldn't get this particular rubber romance image - my neighbour has a pair of slippers just like it and will love a card with it on. I was going to use Kiki Coffee time but this one is even better. I also have my goodies from Sistah Susie Sugar Die Cut Dreams shop, with a few extras and a RAK - she is as sweet as her name. You can also see my other new stamps - from the Kraftin Kimmies Tea Time range. Best of all is my new OTT LITE lamp! I saw it on Ann of Flutterby Crafter's desk last week and she recommended it as being a good one. I got mine from ebay for 29.99 - everywhere else it was 39.99 so pleased with that. It really does give a true daylight feel and I've decided my eyes deserve it.

She really couldn't help herself...........

I got this Kraftin Kimmie Tea Party stamp at the weekend along with another one. This is about as off the wall as I will probably get with the stamped images. I didn't know what I was going to do with her then I was on Crafty Chris's blog and she had done a card using this free castle template from Bling-Kin-Eck. I just thought I would go for it "I really couldn't help myself" LOL! Not sure what I have created and have just about obliterated the castle. I stamped a dragonfly and coloured it with promarkers, I then added some K&Co emphemera images which I also inked. I put the whole thing on a very sensible K&Co preprinted card that I brayered over with heritage ink.  Anyway, something a bit different from me.

Anything goes

I have been wanting to use this TGF stamp but was unsure about how to colour it. Quite pleased with the result. Added some petallo flowers and used SU label and sentiments punched with SU punch. I'm entering into the Anyone for Anya challenge as you can now enter using any TGF image not just Anya's and this week "anything goes", and the Allsorts challenge for petals and pearls (they are pink).

Feel better soon....

This is the card I made for Paula after her recent major op - look at her blog if you dare for a picture of what she has been through-and with great spirit. I know she has the card now so it is safe to post.
The image is CC designs - Kiki coffee time and I just love her. I tried to channel Fiona when I made this card because she always combines so many interesting bits and bobs into her cards. I've also decided I need one of those punches that does fronds - now where did I see them?  I put the pink paper through the bug with a daisy folder and the ribbon is some I just got from USA. I'm getting quite good at actually using supplies! the ribbon through the buttons was around some packs of cards, it too a bit of patience to thread through but I saw someone use tweezers on C&C to do it and it does actually work. The sentiment (bottom left) is a PTI one from the on my couch set.
I'm entering it into these challenges:-
Stamp something - pink
C.R.A.F.T- buttons
Pollycraft - anything goes

Purple and turquoise with that shoe! and awards

For those of you that couldn't see the shoe digi that was on my desk - here it is! It is a freebie download from Ooh La La - and has to be one of the best freebies ever - there is a whole CD with these shoes on and yes I am sure I will be getting it soon!
If it was my birthday I would send myself this card - I love it. It has been coming together for a while now on the desk, but slowly and surely I got there. One of my new SU sentiments and oval punch with an oval nestie behind it. The SU paper is brayered - really needs to be embossed for you to do this, this piece was originally all white and silvery. I distressed the papers slightly ad inked the edges and added a punched butterfly with some SU tempting turquoise ribbon and background card is SU tempting turquoise card. And the challange it is for is Purple and turquoise over at C.R.A.F.T challenge.
Now for some awards I got recently, they came thick and fast so this is the first opportunity I have had to say thank you.
From three lovely ladies Paula , Liverpool Lou (Anne) and Vee

It translates into something like - this blog is charming

I am to give this to 12 other bloggers, well ladies we have quite a tight knit circle these days thanks to WOWW and I have seen those I would have passed it to nominated by either you or others. However there are two recent acquaintances that I would like to specifically pass it on to
Vicki of Artistic License
Kaz of Slightly Wonky Crafts
and to any others who would like it.

There are the remnants of my Cath Kidston butterflies (see earlier post). My new oval SU punch and sentiment stamps with two new ink pads. I've been brayering ink over some SU paper (idea I got from Victoria -thank you) but I haven't done anything with them yet. I found a challenge which I thought was lilac but it is lilac and turquoise so have to rethink now, but hopefully the shoe may make it on to a card this week. After being at home the last twoWednesdays it's back to work for me, so visit you all later.

It's so distressing.........

It's so distressing is the title of the challenge on Simon Says this week. They asked you to use Tim H products if you have them, and I don't! So I turned to my brayer and heritage ink pads and this is the result. The butterfly is from Craftwork cards and I inked over it, the little square was in a Docrafts kit and I have inked the edges and stamped "with love" on it. Stamped over with various vintage stamps.
I'm also entering it into Creative card crew challenge who want "vintage/aged" amd Allsorts challenge who don't want you to use any DPs.

CASED butterflies and awards

I have to admit to totally CASING this idea from the uber talented Kirsty Wiseman. I have just had another look I realise that mine is slightly different to Kirsty's so I do have some of my own ideas LOL!
The butterflies are punched from.........
It's a Cath Kidston magazine - should be £1.50 but if you go to the website you can order one for free, and so far they have sent me two issues. And I am going to order something so they win!

Lisa over on Mess2Magic has very kindly given me these two awards.

They don't come with any guidelines that I can see so I would like to pass them onto the following people this time:-

Lisa actually beat me to a couple of others!

Yellow, orange and green

Ever since I did the faux paper tear effect at Victoria's workshop on Saturday I have been trying it out on some other cards. This card has a linen effect so was pleased the way the ink picked that up. I used SU Greenhouse garden (again!) and then put a glittered sticker over the top. This is for the challenge at The Crafty Pad who want to see yellow, orange and green.

Happy Easter everyone.

Thursday, 1 April 2010

As soon as I saw this colour combo on Little Paper Shop Blog I new I wanted to use my SU Greenhouse garden stamp set, and to think I never gave this a second look until it was on promotion. I used it to stamp the background, first with a yellow and then using the other stamp to go over with choc.  I also used some little embellies, they are on all the cards at the moment as they are now in the handy spice rack on my desk. The ribbon is from No time to stamp she has some lovely kits. the glitter was not supposed to be on the card but I used too thick a tape and of course it was showing!

Mad Hatters Tea Party

This is a card made with a free image from Nutcrafters for their DT call.  They have this free image for everyone to use on their submissions and a bonus set of complimentary images FREE for everyone who enters.
I've used basic grey papers and stickers with a preprinted acetated HI. I coloured the image mainly with Sakura gell pens and a few promarkers. I really enjoyed making this card and now I am sending it to a friend who has been waiting for me to have time to meet up with her, just to let her know that the MBA is almost over and we can have tea!
I' m also entering it into By the cute and girly challenge - their theme is fairytales and I see some of the DT have used an Alice in Wonderland theme.
