mid month reminder for Penny Black & more challenge

Here today to remind you of our ongoing challenge for October at Penny Black & More with the theme of Close to Nature.

For my DT card I chose this little chap who looks like he is very close to nature! It's Penny Black 1719K Nap Time. I stamped the image and created a background using aqua pens and glycerine. Then I bleached out the colour from the image with a brush and water before recolouring . I then used some more water splashed over the card and faux bleached to leave the spodges.

I used a stitched die to cut out the image and then stamped my sentiment which is from Swedish House Crafts. Finally I mounted onto some purple card which I distressed the edges of. Then I mounted onto some Penny Black DP and a little crochet lace from my stash.

Inky workshop

Thought my workshop today (saturday 14 Oct) with the very talented Amanda Branston deserved a post all of its own.

This is my first card using Lavina fairy and some Clarity trees.

The for the second card - using a mountain mask forwards and reversed.

A fab monotone technique with oxides.

Probably my favourite, Northern Lights. I will definitely be trying this technique again.

Lastly oxides on black card.

Biggest surprise of the day was that Kathy Mills aka one of the Glitter Girls was on the workshop! The loveliest lady too. Just had to ask for a snap with her.

Think Pink at Allsorts and Swedish House Crafts

Today Swedish House Crafts is so very pleased to be sponsoring the Allsorts challenge blog. Becky and I have each made a card for the challenge blog. The theme is "Think Pink" if you want to join in over at the Allsorts blog.

For my card I chose to use these items from the Swedish House Crafts shop:-

Gummiapan Dies - Integrated Hearts

Gummiapan Stamp - Daisy face

Gummiapan Stamp - Texts 16 Words

Gummiapan Stamp - Butterfly Morpho - Small

I cut out using the integrated hearts from pink card but I added Distress ink to make a hot pink colour. I stamped inside the hearts using words from the Text stamp.

I stamped the daisy in pink distress ink onto pink card. Then using a sparkle pen I dragged the colour.

I love this heart frame and it goes so well with all the other elements. I stamped inside it using just the "be you" from the sentiment stamp along with two tiny butterflies. I used the sparkle pen while the ink was wet to drag over the sentiment to "grunge" it a little.

Finally I used the "waste" from the heart die to add the little hearts.

All hallows eve - Lavinia stamps

It's ages since I have had my Lavinia stamps out, so when I saw their challenge I decided to give it a go. The theme is "All Hallows Eve".

I started with a piece of Sheena stamping card and stamped the fairy and the castles. Masking off for the moon and the lantern. Then using TH distress inks for the sky and oxides for the foreground I applied with a brayer. Then I added some extra colour through the sky and for the hills. Adding the colour for her lantern.

I used some mushroom and bull rush stamps in the foreground. Then using my new dual colour gel sparkle pens from Pentel I added some detailing to her dress and coloured with distress inks. These pens are amazing, when they catch the light they change from one colour to another and glitter!

Finally I drew some bats and edged with a black sharpie.

Hot and spicy fall colours

For my card today I'm using the Turnabout triangle stamp from Concord and ninth. This is one of the new stamps that you "turnabout" - you can see a video for it here.

This was my first attempt at using the stamp and I know I didn't get it quite right, but I was happy with the result and I was also aiming for a bit of a distressed look.

I've only used part of the stamp and then cut out some squares for the rest of the card. My sentiment is from Lil inker and I used my new Go press and foil to put gold foil over the top. Again this was actually a trial piece, but the way bits got missed I thought it added to the distressed feel of the card.

I'm entering this into the Less Is More challenge for Hot and spicy colours #349 and the Uniko challenge for Autumnal/fall colours.

Use die cuts at Ooh la la Creative Challenge Blog

Our new challenge at Ooh la la Creative Challenge blog is "use die cuts" as chosen by Janice.

I have been meaning to decorate a bag for ages and so today is the day! I used a Spellbinders die to create the main panel with the anemone images taken from Yesterday's Memories cdrom.
I used a memory box poppy die to paper piece using some of the background paper.
This is the reverse side of the bag.
A close up of the main panel.
I do hope we see you over at the challenge were as always you can win two digi images.

Close to Nature @ Penny Black & More challenge

A little late with my DT card for Penny Black & More - not sure where the month went but I obviously didn't realise I hadn't got my card scheduled!

Our challenge this month is Close to Nature. I've used Penny Black 30-300 Happy Notes for my card. I began with a piece of card which I used a post it circle for the sun and then dragged colour across the card. Then I stamped over with the image removing the post it and dragged a little of the colour over the white area that was left from the circle.

On my base card I used the other stamps in the set. Then I edged just the top and bottom of my card with a black sharpie before mounting onto the base card.

Our sponsors this month are Penny Black, Crafty Ribbons and Sizzix, so as usual lots of fab prizes to be won.

Anything goes at The Male Room

I love these urban stamps from Sheena Douglass - I've had another play with them and this time I also used one of her stencils in the background. The buildings at the front I stamped several times on the MISTI to get the deep black ink. I coloured them with aqua tints and then I cut them out and mounted them onto the top of my oxide ink background. I used a black sharpie to outline the background card.

I added the sentiment and birds from the same range of urban stamps.

I'm entering this at the
Male Room challenge where it is "anything goes"
Cardz 4 Guyz - architecture

I keep forgetting to share these photos from the Crafters Companion Store at Chesterfield. It was their first birthday the other week and Sara was there demoing.

Jumping Reindeer for Swedish House Crafts and Rudolph Day

Today I am sharing my DT make for from Swedish House Crafts. I've chosen to make a Christmas card and all the products I used are linked in the text for easy shopping!

The Maja Designs papers are such fabulous quality and it is a shame to cut them up - so for my background I used one whole, it does all the work for you and it's called "I wish - to build a snowman". I love the details on the paper here are some close ups.

and here the little robins in the corner........

I used another sheet of the papers to make a frame by cutting out the centre of the sheet using the largest Gummiapan old paper die. Don't worry I kept the inner part and this will be on another card soon! I mounted the frame onto my base with foam tape.

I used the wood effect paper  from Maja paper "Denim and friends" to edge by design - it's not a Christmas paper but it looks very effective. The lovely girl is from the "I wish - Emphemra" sheet.

For the main design I used a Gummiapan stamp called Texted Reindeer. I stamped it three times using different inks and different papers, then carefully cut around them.

I used my favourite ever die - Gummiapan Doodle circle 3 times from different papers. For the one in the centre I also kept the inner paper from the cut with the cute snowmen.

All stuck together with the Crafters Companion extra strong permanent glue tape pen.

I'm also entering this card into the September Rudolph Day challenge over on Mo's blog.

Things with wings @ Allsorts challenge

I made this card for a friend of mine who is mad about owls and she loves walking. The elements all came from a Pollyanna Pickering cdrom and I just added a few die cuts. The "birthday" die is from Clearly Besotted and I never got the "happy" and now I see it is discontinued. I used CE Midnight blue metallic card stock so it wasn't as harsh as black card.

She absolutely loved it and that makes it all worth while when you can make such a personal card for someone.

I'm entering this into the challenge at Allsorts which is for "things with wings".

Harvest Time at Ooh la la Creative Challenge blog

Jane has chosen our theme at Ooh La La Creative Challenge blog this time. Her choice is "Harvest".

For my DT card I used this image from The Shawn Jenkins collection. This is Autumn window from the celebration section of the cdrom.

The beginnings of my card came with the purchase of the apple embossing folder and buttons from The Craft Consortium - this image and background paper was the perfect match.

I added a little red ink to the edges of the background paper and the sentiment is from a Creative Expressions set.

Photo inspiration

I've taken my inspiration for this card from the photo challenge at Stamping Sensations.

As soon as I saw this colour pallette I thought of the mermaid stamp. So I took some card and using Sheena and Hobby art stamps created my scene. I then coloured the images with sparkle pens and aquatints.

I die cut a couple of nautical elements and added those too.

I'm entering this into the Stamping Sensations challenge and also over at the Snippets Playground as my die cuts came from the snippets box.

Masking and needlefelting

My card today ended up being a Christmas card but I didn't set out to do that! The Male Room challenge is Masking this time. So I created the little watercolour scene by masking for the sun and the little conifer trees. Then I decided to add some snow and so a Christmas card was in my mind.

The deer are a memory box die and the stamps are from a magazine last year. The frame is Craftwork cards crackle kraft paper.

I went needle felting for the first time last week. A lovely one to one tuition at the Edwinstowe Craft Centre in Tinkering Faeries. I only did half a day and managed to make a faerie and a toadstool.

Here is the setting before we began.
 Here I am felting away.
The finished items. Mine are on the left with my trade mark purple! The tutors on the right - she decided her toadstool needed more spots than I did.
I really enjoyed it and only stabbed myself twice and broke two needles which apparently is a bit of a record for a newbie.

Get Ready for Christmas at Penny Black & More challenge - mid month reminder

It's time to give you a little reminder about our current challenge over at Penny Back & More.  This time we are looking for your Christmas makes in our "Get ready for Christmas challenge".

For my DT card I've used Penny Black 12 Days of Christmas 30-016 and Hanging Treasures 40-165.
I took a frame I bought from the poundshop and using my GoPress and Foil I put gold foil onto it. The image is coloured with promarkers and I used some paper I have had for a long time, which I realised went well with the theme of the PB stamps.

Now every month I see my teamie Mervi making sets of  fab co-ordinated cards and I vow I will make a set. Guess what - yeah! I did it........

It would be great to see you over on the challenge, don't forget we have fab prizes and this month our sponsors are:-
Penny Black, Swedish House Crafts, Rare Earth Stamps

Two challenges one card

The inspiration for this card came firstly from The Male Room challenge where they want to see School colours. My school uniform was green with optional white blouse. I have hated anything green to wear every since!

And secondly it came from CD Sunday challenge who want to see CAS cards.

I've used Men -y Happy Returns CD rom from MCS. I had forgotten how many images are on there, for some reason I thought it was just sentiments. This image seemed perfect for both challenges. I added the sentiment background image from the same cdrom and using MCS added the text, re-sized it and printed it out. Then I used a black sharpie to edge the image and a TL die cut for the corners.

Happily Ever After at Ooh la la Creations challenge blog

It's Wynn's turn to choose the new challenge over at Ooh la la Creations and this time she has chosen "Happily Ever After".
I've used the Say It with Words cdrom for my DT card.

I cut the background out using a TL pierced square die. The image is already layered up and so I just added a tag and some TL die cuts.

Thanks for looking and hope to see you over at the challenge.

LIM and published in Craft Stamper Magazine

I had a few ideas for the Less is More Challenge this week. The theme is Lime Green and Royal blue. However, I never really got around to any of them and as I was looking through some CDroms I came across this image of a helmet. It was already in green and so I then copied it and recoloured it navy, then flipped the image too.

After that I was unsure where I was going with the idea!  In the end I decided to cut around the images and mount them into a hand drawn frame and then add the computer generated sentiment into the centre.

I had a little more inspiration when I made this next card which features in this months Craft Stamper magazine. The brief was to use shades of green and dark plum. I used Sheena stamps and the couple with the dog are from Crafty Individuals.

And here it is in the magazine with my little write up.

Let's hear it for the boys - CD Sunday challenge

I've been putting off making this card as it's for a 10 year old boy and he is just at the age where he is too old for some things and not old enough for others! So when I saw the challenge at CD Sunday challenge was "Let's Hear it for the Boys" I decided to see what I could find on my cdroms and after some searching this is what I came up with.

I used the Camden Town cdrom from Crafters Companion. I took one of the backing papers into MCS and superimposed over the top the other elements from the cdrom. I used a sharpie pen to edge the design before cutting out and mounting onto my base card. Then I cut out some stars using the Seth Apter die and placed them around the card.

Pleased with how this turned out in the end.
